Subject Overview
Financial Markets and Services is the second Finance elective — how India's financial system, markets, and services industry actually work. You'll cover the components of the financial system and money/capital markets, financial regulation (SEBI, RBI) and the primary and secondary markets, financial services like leasing, mutual funds, merchant banking, and credit rating, and close with factoring and the depository system (NSDL, CDSL). This is a 6-credit elective paper across 4 units, complementary to Corporate Accounting.

Unit 1: Introduction to the financial system
Components and key elements of the financial system, the money market — instruments, functioning and participants, structure and functions of the Indian capital market, meaning and types of financial services
Unit 2: Financial regulation & markets
Regulatory framework — SEBI and RBI, primary market SEBI guidelines, book building, online IPOs, green-shoe option, secondary market — stock exchanges, listing, trading and settlement, introduction to derivative markets
Unit 3: Financial services
Leasing meaning, features and types, lease vs. buy vs. hire purchase, mutual fund concept and schemes, merchant banking scope and SEBI guidelines, credit rating types and agencies, venture capital and SEBI guidelines
Unit 4: Factoring & the depository system
Factoring concept vs. bills discounting, credit insurance and forfeiting, depository meaning, dematerialisation and rematerialisation process, NSDL and CDSL, depository participants and SEBI guidelines
