The second course in the Data Science elective stream, covering the fundamentals and importance of data visualization, comparing visualization tools (Excel, Tableau, Power BI, Python), data storytelling principles, and the principles of designing effective, well-colored, well-modeled visualizations. A 2-credit elective theory paper.

Unit 1: Introduction to data visualization
Definition and importance of data visualization, its role in decision making, types of data (numerical, categorical, temporal, geographical), the visualization process (collection, exploration, analysis, visualization, interpretation), challenges and limitations
Unit 2: Visualization tools and storytelling
Overview and comparison of Excel, Tableau, Power BI and Python for visualization, principles of data storytelling — narrative and context, best practices for dashboard layout and interactivity
Unit 3: Designing effective visualizations
Principles of good visualization design, using color effectively, the importance of data modeling in visualization
