Subject Overview

This Skill Enhancement Course is a hands-on Tally ERP 9 workshop — practical, software-based accounting rather than manual bookkeeping theory. You'll compare manual and computerised accounting, get started with Tally ERP 9 (company creation, navigation), then build advanced inventory information (stock groups, categories, ledgers, purchase and sales orders) before moving into final accounts and reports — trial balance, cash book, bank book, balance sheet, and profit & loss account inside Tally. This is a 2-credit paper across 4 units, designed to give students direct, employable software skills.

Unit 1: Introduction to computerised accounting

Meaning, features, advantages and limitations of computerised accounting, manual vs. computerised accounting systems, special aspects and development of computerised accounting systems

Unit 2: Getting started with Tally ERP 9

Introduction to accounting packages, salient features of Tally ERP 9, start-up, components of the Tally ERP 9 window, creating a company, company info menu, closing Tally

Unit 3: Advanced inventory information in Tally

Stock groups and stock categories, stock item types and decimal places, accounting groups (capital account, current asset/liability, loans, revenue), ledger creation, purchase and sales orders, inventory vouchers

Unit 4: Final accounts & reports in Tally

Implementing final accounts, accounting reports display, trial balance, books and registers, cash book, bank book, balance sheet, profit and loss account, principal ratios
