Subject Overview
The opening communication paper of the B.Sc IT program builds the foundation for both verbal and written workplace communication — English language fundamentals and vocabulary, business communication types and barriers, presentation and reading/writing skills, and listening and non-verbal communication. A 4-credit core theory paper.

Unit 1: English language fundamentals
Sentence structure, parts of speech, tenses, active-passive voice, direct-indirect speech, creative writing and vocabulary, comprehension passages, reading biographies of IT business personalities
Unit 2: Business communication
Types, media, objectives, models and process of business communication, importance of communication, understanding and handling barriers to communication
Unit 3: Presentation, reading and writing skills
Purpose of presentations in business, finding material, sequencing a speech with introduction and conclusion, preparing PPTs and body language, importance of reading and writing, notices, e-mails, tenders, advertisements, formal letters
Unit 4: Listening and non-verbal communication
Importance of listening as an individual, leader and worker, types of listening and barriers to listening, understanding non-verbal communication and its types and importance
