Woven Design Project (Practical)
Subject Overview
This second, more advanced Woven Design Project pushes students to develop a range of woven fabrics for an actual commercial product, using both Jacquard and Dobby techniques. Students take inspiration from a theme to build a colour and mood board, develop concepts and layouts on paper, then convert these into actual woven samples — enlarging designs on graph paper, punching the design, and producing it on fabric for a tapestry or home furnishing range. This is a 2-credit core practical paper.

Unit 1: Concept to woven sample
Taking inspiration from a theme to make a colour board and mood board, making concepts and layouts on paper, converting paper designs into actual woven samples using various weaving techniques
Unit 2: Jacquard/Dobby production
Designing a pattern using both Jacquard and Dobby techniques, enlarging the design on graph paper, punching the design on a hard sheet, actual production of the design on fabric for a tapestry/home furnishing range
