Business Organization and Management
Subject Overview
Business Organization and Management introduces how businesses are structured and run — the foundation paper for the entire B.Com program. You'll study the different legal forms a business can take (sole proprietorship, partnership, joint stock company), how management thinking evolved from scientific management to modern systems approaches, and the four core management functions: planning, organizing, staffing, and controlling. A significant portion covers decision-making processes, motivation theories (Maslow, Herzberg, Vroom), and the difference between authority, responsibility, and accountability — concepts that show up again and again in later HR and management papers. This is a 6-credit core paper across 4 units, and understanding it well makes several second and third-year subjects noticeably easier.
