Unit summary

Microsoft Word is used for reports, assignments and design briefs. This unit covers working with documents, page formatting, tables, editing tools and importing and exporting files.

Topic 2

Page setup and tables

Page setup controls margins (space around the text), orientation (portrait or landscape), size (A4, Letter), headers, footers and page numbers.

Typical margins: 2.5 cm all round; use the Layout tab to change them

A table has rows, columns and cells. Insert via Insert → Table, then merge or split cells, set borders and shading, and use Sort to arrange rows.

Topic 3

Editing tools and file formats

Find and Replace locates words and changes them everywhere in one step. Spell check (F7) corrects spelling and grammar. Documents can be saved as .docx or exported as .pdf; text can be imported from other files using Insert → Object or Open.
