Subject Overview

Intellectual Property Right and EDP gives graduating designers the legal and entrepreneurial grounding they need to protect their work and potentially start their own venture. You'll study the basic principles of patents, copyright, trademarks and design rights, the international IP background, and ownership/enforcement/licensing of IP rights, before moving into entrepreneurship concepts, EDP programmes, and the formalities of launching a small enterprise in India. This is a 2-credit core theory paper across 6 units.

Philosophical aspects of IP law, basic principles of patent law and patent application procedure, drafting patent specifications, copyright law, trademark and design rights fundamentals

Concept and definitions of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and economic development, classification and types of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial competencies, EDP programmes and training

Unit 6: Launching a small enterprise

Definition, rationale and role of SMEs in India's economic development, SME registration and pollution board NOC, machinery/equipment selection, project report preparation and planning
