The third Operations Management group elective, covering the strategic framework for analyzing supply chains, designing the supply chain network, planning and managing inventories/sourcing/transportation, and coordination technology and emerging concepts like reverse logistics and blockchain. Supply chain stages and decision phases, process view, supply chain flows, competitive and supply chain strategies, drivers of performance (inventory, transportation, facilities, information), obstacles to achieving fit
Unit 2: Designing the supply chain network
Distribution networking role and design, SCN factors and design decision framework, facility location and capacity allocation models, impact of uncertainty on SCN, discounted cash flow analysis, decision trees
Unit 3: Inventory, sourcing and transportation
Multi-echelon cycle inventory management, safety inventory determination, optimum product availability, sourcing role and supplier selection, design collaboration, role of transportation and modes
Unit 4: Coordination and emerging concepts
Role of IT in the supply chain, E-CRM, SRM, E-business framework, reverse logistics, RFID systems and bar codes, lean supply chains, Six Sigma implementation, role of blockchain in supply chain
