Workplace stress: meaning and types
- Stress: the body's and mind's response to demands that a person perceives as exceeding their resources.

- Acute (short-term) vs chronic (long-term) stress; burnout is chronic work stress causing exhaustion, cynicism and reduced effectiveness (WHO recognises it as an occupational phenomenon).

- Organisational practice: mindfulness programmes, quiet rooms, guided sessions; many Indian and global firms include them in wellness programmes.

Significance of yoga
- Yoga (union of body, mind and spirit) — Patanjali's ashtanga yoga: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi.
- Benefits: physical fitness, stress reduction, mental focus, emotional stability, self-discipline.
- Workplace: yoga breaks, wellness programmes, the International Day of Yoga (21 June) and Y-Break app promoted by the Government of India.
Topic 6
Joint Hindu Family Business and the Karta
- Joint Hindu Family (HUF) business: a business owned by a Hindu Undivided Family and managed by the Karta, usually the senior-most male member; daughters became coparceners by birth after the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005, and the Delhi High Court (Sujata Sharma v. Manu Gupta, 2016) held that the eldest daughter, as a coparcener, can be the Karta.
- Features: membership by birth, unlimited liability of the Karta (limited liability of other coparceners), continuity, Karta's wide authority.
