Unit summary
An idea is only tested when a real customer responds. This unit is about taking the first real action — a message, post, pitch or sale — reflecting on what happened, improving the approach until you earn your first ₹100, and getting to know your target customer by actually talking to them.
After this unit you can
- Take a first real action towards a sale and reflect on it
- Iterate on your offer after rejection or silence
- Earn a first small income and record it honestly
- Describe your target customer from direct conversation and observation
PTU syllabus topics
- Taking the first real action (message, post, pitch or sale) to a real customer
- reflecting on the outcome with peers
- iterating toward the first ₹100 earned
- identifying and understanding the target customer through direct conversation and observation
- 1. Make an offer: A clear, simple product or service
- 2. Take action: Message, post or pitch a real customer
- 3. Listen: Collect honest feedback
- 4. Improve: Adjust the offer and try again
Topic 1
Taking the first real action
Most beginners plan for too long. The fastest way to learn is to act: send a message, publish a post, make a pitch or attempt a sale to a real person.
- Start with people you can reach today: classmates, neighbours, local shops, online groups.
- Keep the first action small and quick: one post, five messages, one pitch.
Example
A student offering laptop cleaning sends a WhatsApp message to 10 hostel friends: "I clean laptops and speed them up for ₹100 — available this weekend."
Topic 2
Reflecting with peers
After each action, reflect in a short cycle and share it with classmates, who often spot what you missed.
- 1. Act: Message, post or pitch
- 2. Observe: Who replied? Who bought?
- 3. Reflect: What worked and what didn't
- 4. Improve: Change price, wording or audience
Exam tip
In reflection answers, give real numbers: "Sent 15 messages, 4 replies, 1 sale." Evidence scores better than general statements.
Topic 3
Iterating towards the first ₹100
Rejection and silence are data, not failure. Change one thing at a time:
- Message: make the benefit clearer.
- Audience: try people who feel the problem more strongly.
- Price: offer a starter price or a free sample.
- Channel: move from WhatsApp to Instagram or face-to-face.
The goal of the first ₹100 is psychological as much as financial: it proves that someone will pay for your offer.
Topic 4
Understanding the target customer
A target customer is the specific group most likely to buy. Learn about them by:
- Direct conversation: ask open questions such as "What's the hardest part of…?" and "What do you use now?"
- Observation: watch how people behave, what they complain about and what they already pay for.
- Who
- Age, occupation, location
- Problem
- What frustrates them
- Current solution
- What they use or pay for now
- Trigger
- When they are most likely to buy
Key terms
- Iteration
- Improving an offer step by step based on results
- Target customer
- The specific group most likely to buy your offer
- Pitch
- A short, persuasive explanation of your offer
- Customer feedback
- What customers say or do in response to your offer
Quick revision
- Act early; small real actions teach more than long plans.
- Use the act–observe–reflect–improve loop.
- Change one thing at a time: message, audience, price or channel.
- Learn about customers by talking to them and observing them.
