  • Potential appraisal assesses an employee's capacity to handle higher responsibilities in future, unlike performance appraisal which assesses past performance.
  • Tools: assessment centres, psychometric tests, simulations, 360-degree feedback, leadership competency models; used for succession planning and high-potential (HiPo) programmes.
